Putin: India’s Rise to Superpower Status is Unstoppable, Built on Trust with Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently expressed his strong support for India as a rising global superpower, emphasizing Russia's unique relationship with India based on deep trust and collaboration. Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi on November 7, 2024, Putin highlighted India's potential, economic growth, and cultural heritage, stating, “With a population of 1.5 billion and exceptional prospects for future growth, India deserves recognition as a global superpower.”

India and Russia’s Strategic Relationship

Putin noted that Russia’s ties with India go beyond defense trade; they’re built on mutual trust and cooperation across multiple sectors. “We don’t simply sell our weapons to India; we collaborate on designing them together,” he explained, referencing India’s extensive use of Russian military technology. This partnership, he added, has set the foundation for deepening relations in defense, security, and other fields.

Expanding Bilateral Ties in All Areas

Calling India “a great country” with a growing economy, Putin shared his vision of expanding Russian-Indian relations across various fields. “India, now the world’s most populous country, adds about 10 million people each year. It is leading the world in economic growth,” he said, noting how this growth is shaping Russia’s plans for ongoing and future collaborations with India.

Defense Collaboration as a Pillar of Trust

Putin emphasized that Russia’s defense cooperation with India is one of the strongest elements of their relationship. “Look at how extensively Russian equipment is used by India’s armed forces. This is a partnership based on trust,” he stated. As an example, Putin pointed to the BrahMos cruise missile project, a joint venture between the two countries that has adapted the missile for land, sea, and air use. This, he noted, is a symbol of Russia’s commitment to India’s security.

Cooperation Beyond Defense,

Putin stressed that Russia’s partnership with India reflects a broader commitment to mutual growth and security, one that has gained respect worldwide. “Projects like BrahMos are widely known, and they showcase the trust between our countries,” he added. Putin further expressed confidence that this cooperation would only strengthen in the future.

India-China Relations: A Balanced Perspective.

While acknowledging the complexities of the India-China border situation, Putin expressed optimism. He believes that leaders from both countries are wise and capable enough to find a peaceful compromise, ensuring stability and progress for the future.
